[ Meme ] Mistletoe

Oh the weather outside is frightful, but kissing is so delightful. And since we've no place to go, let 'em flow, let 'em flow, let 'em flow! Kisses that is.

This meme's as simple as it comes. There's mistletoe. It might be magical and making kisses happen where they shouldn't, aspirational and encouraging kisses to happen where they wouldn't, inspirational and suggesting kisses where they haven't but maybe should, or just plain existential and making excuses for kisses that already do.

How do?

1. Comment with your characters under the mistletoe. Be as descriptive or generic as you like.
2. Include any limitations (like sex or age of partner, or type of kiss).
3. Tag other characters with your characters.
4. Prosper!

His father would still call it quitting, but that was probably on the list of reasons he and his father weren't that close.

"I was going to be a priest," He liked her too, he wasn't sure why exactly but it didn't surprise him. Maybe it was because most people wouldn't have asked the question. "I got chucked out of the seminary, they thought I was too frivolous to be a priest."

Not strictly true, but it's the story he likes best.

Too frivolous. She repeated the words in her mind as if to extrapolate their meaning.

"And what does 'too frivolous' mean in the context of British priests? Were your vestments too ornate?"

"One Friday during lent I did a huge fish pie with mashed potatoes on the top. Lots of decorative piping, swirls and curlicues." The deadpan delivery makes it virtually impossible to know if he's telling the truth.

"I was supposed to be doing a meditation on Thomas Aquinas. Father Chisholm just couldn't see the connection."

She turned and stared at him with an impassive expression for several intent seconds. "Either Father Chisholm grew tired of answers such as those, or the truth of it still hurts." She began to raise her mug again, then shifted one shoulder to shrug in an annotation. "Perhaps both."

"Definitely both." The truth always hurt, how long varied but the memory of pain stayed.

"Also Father Chisholm was a bit of a stickler on matters of doctrine. And I realized suddenly that I wasn't, or I didn't want to be. Which was bound to create friction if i stayed." And that was closer to the truth than being frivolous.

She hummed a note of acknowledgment. "I was supposed to be a demon," she said in an off-handed way, with a stoic ambiguity he might find familiar. "Plans change."

"Lilith is supposed to be a demon too, but I think that's a bit of a harsh view of feminism."

"Lilith is a demon. Literally." Or she had been if she was no longer. Such interplanar, cross-mythos subjects were complicated. "Not to be confused with Lillith."

She let the subject go, looking up at Hathaway speculatively. "Is someone coming to save you from your fate of entrapment by enchanted foliage?"

Maybe where she was from, where he was from Lilith was just a story. He looked back down at her when she continued though, and shrugged.

"Probably not as I'm an unlikely damsel."

She huffed a soft sound that might be amusement. "I for one don't intend to stand here all day."

That was as far as Illyana went in the way of warning, before extending her hand with her mug to one side and shifting in deliberately to take a kiss from his lips.

He might have flailed slightly for a moment before thinking 'sod it' and kissing her back.

His reflexive jerk and wriggle was amusing, and the recovery of his kiss was... Surprisingly competent. Considering that they were both of them bourbon-and-nog flavored from the start, it was altogether pleasant and admittedly seasonally appropriate.

She eased back after a moment, humming as she rolled her lips. "There are worse ways to break a spell."

"This was my first spell," so he had no basis for comparison. Still he knew she was right and the smile he gave her was lopsided.

"Shall we agree to never speak of this again?"

"Agreed," she allowed, eyeing his lopsided smile. She sipped her nog, finding her cup nearly empty, and turned to leave him be.

"Until next time," she added. Deliberate in her ambiguity.

“Well now I’m going to be thinking about next time,” he said mostly to himself before wandering off on his own to find another drink.
