[ Meme ] Mistletoe

Oh the weather outside is frightful, but kissing is so delightful. And since we've no place to go, let 'em flow, let 'em flow, let 'em flow! Kisses that is.

This meme's as simple as it comes. There's mistletoe. It might be magical and making kisses happen where they shouldn't, aspirational and encouraging kisses to happen where they wouldn't, inspirational and suggesting kisses where they haven't but maybe should, or just plain existential and making excuses for kisses that already do.

How do?

1. Comment with your characters under the mistletoe. Be as descriptive or generic as you like.
2. Include any limitations (like sex or age of partner, or type of kiss).
3. Tag other characters with your characters.
4. Prosper!

Kitty doesn't celebrate Christmas, but she's happy to celebrate kissing. She isn't exactly hanging out under the mistletoe, but she's close enough that you'd be more than excused for thinking she's looking for a kiss.

Maybe it was the loud colors oversaturating his vision or the caffeine crash-induced wandering, but Tony Stark ended up smack under the dangling hemiparasitic sprig, completely oblivious. Whatever he wanted to say came first, and the rest of his body followed. "I had a thought." He began, gesturing at his partner in construction. "About the specs. Nothing of substance just-- how damn nice it is not having to finesse all the little contract details. You know?"

"Seriously," Kitty replied, temporarily ignoring the mistletoe over Tony's head. He'd come for a chat, not a kiss, obviously, but her expression was a little on the shy side anyhow as she tucked her hair behind her ear. "Can you imagine the building permits? Those alone would be ridiculous. And don't even get me started on the research oversight boards..."

"Who'd even sign off on anything? We don't have budget authorities. The only stakeholders are the tenants. And the ghosts. And the staff. And it's far enough off from the building that it's not getting in anyone's way." Even if he couldn't use his considerable wealth to make problems disappear, it was downright magical not to require a lawyer any step of the way.

"You and me." Tony gestured between himself and Kitty with his emptied thermos. That crash was evening out, and spared the energy for a lingering smile. "Executive decisions. All day, every day."

Technically, she supposed Regina or Caroline or both would probably be involved in any kind of decision that was contentious, but they patently didn't care as long as they were trying to improve the situation here or open a portal to home. So Kitty didn't bother to disagree, just grinned at whatever had him in such a good mood.

"Executive decisions, researching whatever's interesting. You and me." That suddenly seemed a little more emphatic than she'd intended it. Especially when she added, "All day, every day." And found herself glancing from the mistletoe to his mouth and back.

Kitty's energy today was infectious, rousing Tony's full attention. His mind tended to drift, even while engaged in conversation, but following her words brought his attention to the rest of her. His dark eyes followed the movements of hers, and the little 'click!' went off in his head.

"Watching for flies?" His lips quirked up to one side when he caught her staring at his mouth.

"You have been pouring on the honey lately." The quip did little to cover the obvious drift of her thoughts or the pink in her cheeks. Not like being attracted to a colleague was new for her, or probably him for that matter, but he probably wasn't.

Half-rolling her eyes (at herself), she directed his gaze to the mistletoe above his head. "Actually, I was noticing that you're probably stuck and wondering whether I should volunteer or go find someone more appropriate."

"Is that what this is?" Tony immediately attempted to lift a foot to test the statement. Rooted as a Noble Fir. Welp.

"And a kiss breaks the spell. That old story." Tony tapped a few fingers on the cushioned exterior of his thermos, working out a small spike of adrenaline at the realization. He unconsciously ran a hand through his hair, preening the loose brown waves back into shape. "I won't turn back into a frog if you do. Promise."

Kitty made a face at him. It was all very well that he wouldn't turn into a frog, but did he want her to kiss him?

Oh for fuck's sake, Pryde, she swore at herself. You're not twelve.

She moved over toward him and then reached up to curl her hand behind his neck. Instead of waiting for him to bend down, she phased herself enough to wind walk up to his height and planted a very slightly intangible kiss on his mouth.

Now they'd see. If he kissed back and moved to hold on, she could be solid again. And if not, he was free and she hadn't done anything ridiculously embarrassing.

Despite the little back-and-forths, a few tossed glances, and the shared glasses after the long days of planning and development, Tony had more respect for Kitty than to make any assumptions. Enticing his colleague into a kiss of freedom seemed like one of those lines. He was considering simply giving the floor a dose of weaponized plasma and letting things work themselves out when there was warmth on his neck and breath on his lips and all that came after.

'Rendre le bien pour le mal.'

Tony didn't cling, but he lingered. He had the freedom to move his hands, and that was all he needed, letting one sweep a bit of her long brown hair back from her cheek.

Tony didn't hold on but he did kiss back, and the soft sweep of his clever, inventor's fingers against her cheek made clear he had at least some interest. She instinctively tilted her face into his hand.

Although he was ostensibly free, she made no move to step away, but neither did she press for a deeper kiss; her soft sigh did offer an invitation if he was inclined to take it.

The warm weight of Kitty's cheek against his palm and the little murmurs that mingled with his breath were encouraging. Unable to resist the call, he deepened the contact for a few moments. Tony drew back an inch, regarding his R&D partner with a muted surprise--the pleasant kind.

"...I'll take it the coffee wasn't too much of a turn-off." He chuckled, mouth hovering just above hers.

Illyana wasn't exactly sure of the moment when, nor precisely how it had happened. She hadn't had so much bourbon-nog that this missed detail would seem to be a clumsy mistake on her part, and so attributed it to the particular brand of Shenanigan Magic for which this place was renowned.

"Kitty," she said as much to announce their sudden proximity as in greeting.

"Yana," Kitty replied in kind, although with a hint of the smile that Yana's greeting lacked.

She glanced up at the ceiling, noted the position of the mistletoe, and affected a look of surprise. "Don't tell me you've been foxed by a little foliage!" What? It was the sort of thing they'd said when they were teenagers. Before they learned the fine art of conversation.

Kitty's ridiculous banter was so unexpected that Illyana's lips curved into a tight little smile in spite of herself, eyes bright with amusement. Call it a Christmas Miracle and be done with it.

"I'll show this shrub how we garden in Limbo," she answered with mock intensity, narrowing her eyes at the offensive plant. And for what it was worth, she did attempt to draw up a spell that would incinerate the mistletoe - but found her magic to be unresponsive. Huh. "...The area of effect in the mistletoe's enchantment seems to nullify attacks of magical means," she told Kitty as a more sober point of interest.

Kitty'd call it a Hanukkah Miracle, thank you very much, and keep working on her Christmas Miracle smile. Two in a season was very well worth it.

When the soft brush of Yana's magic faded, Kitty floated up to the ceiling. She attempted to pluck the weed to no avail. Run her fingers through it. Pull a chunk of the ceiling away.

"No joy for physical attacks either," she replied and floated back down beside Yana.

Magic mistletoe reminded Lara a little of how she and Kitty had discovered they enjoyed kissing each other. That had been magical Valentine’s something, but it was still similar enough that even if Kitty wasn’t trapped Lara was happy to step in. Directly into Kitty’s personal space, and slide an arm around her. “Hey, K.”

At the smile on Lara's face, Kitty's grew to match. She also couldn't help thinking of Valentine's Day, a lifetime ago. And then Lara slipped an arm around her waist, and the smile threatened to split her face. She wrapped the opposite arm around Lara's waist, sort of locking the two of them together. "Hey, L."

"Waiting for someone in particular?" James smiled lopsidedly at his friend and held out a glass of wine. He's not implying that she might be waiting for him, just asking.

"Nope." Grinning, Kitty reached past the glass of wine for James' hand. Once she got her fingers around his wrist, she tugged--and didn't stop tugging until he was properly under the mistletoe and so was she. "Oh. Was that wine for me?"

"Subtle," he cracked a half smile down at her. "Should I assume you'd like to be kissed and just go for it, or shall I ask for permission?"

"I think you can consider that permission asked and offered," she replied, flashing a cheeky grin at him. She did take the wine from him them and grab a swallow while she was waiting on him to work up whatever nerve he needed to.

It was surprisingly easy to work up the nerve, because it was Kitty and he knew he so well. Still when he bent to kiss her the touch was light and undemanding, just his lips warm on hers and one arm that encircled her waist.

No lie, Kitty had been wondering about this since the first night she crashed in his bed. So when he bent to kiss her, she immediately curled her hand around the back of his neck and drew him closer. Her other hand caught in his shirt, fingers slipping between the buttons to rub the backs of her fingers against his chest.

He had probably wondered about it as well, but he had few enough friends that he'd ruthlessly squelched any such thoughts. Still, since the opportunity had presented itself he decided to enjoy it and fumbling slightly set down his glass so both arms went around her.
