[ Meme ] Mistletoe

Oh the weather outside is frightful, but kissing is so delightful. And since we've no place to go, let 'em flow, let 'em flow, let 'em flow! Kisses that is.

This meme's as simple as it comes. There's mistletoe. It might be magical and making kisses happen where they shouldn't, aspirational and encouraging kisses to happen where they wouldn't, inspirational and suggesting kisses where they haven't but maybe should, or just plain existential and making excuses for kisses that already do.

How do?

1. Comment with your characters under the mistletoe. Be as descriptive or generic as you like.
2. Include any limitations (like sex or age of partner, or type of kiss).
3. Tag other characters with your characters.
4. Prosper!

"Reminds me of that little apartment we had. Remember when we'd hang the paper chains?" He looked over at Steve, smiling warmly at him. "We didn't have much back then. We had to make do and be creative," he murmured. Even if it had been tight, they'd made it.

Bucky smirked, motioning to the tree off to the side. "It's over there," he said softly, watching Steve with amusement. "That's not the tree that you're looking at, punk."

Kitty made a face at him. It was all very well that he wouldn't turn into a frog, but did he want her to kiss him?

Oh for fuck's sake, Pryde, she swore at herself. You're not twelve.

She moved over toward him and then reached up to curl her hand behind his neck. Instead of waiting for him to bend down, she phased herself enough to wind walk up to his height and planted a very slightly intangible kiss on his mouth.

Now they'd see. If he kissed back and moved to hold on, she could be solid again. And if not, he was free and she hadn't done anything ridiculously embarrassing.

"This was my first spell," so he had no basis for comparison. Still he knew she was right and the smile he gave her was lopsided.

"Shall we agree to never speak of this again?"

It was surprisingly easy to work up the nerve, because it was Kitty and he knew he so well. Still when he bent to kiss her the touch was light and undemanding, just his lips warm on hers and one arm that encircled her waist.

Despite the little back-and-forths, a few tossed glances, and the shared glasses after the long days of planning and development, Tony had more respect for Kitty than to make any assumptions. Enticing his colleague into a kiss of freedom seemed like one of those lines. He was considering simply giving the floor a dose of weaponized plasma and letting things work themselves out when there was warmth on his neck and breath on his lips and all that came after.

'Rendre le bien pour le mal.'

Tony didn't cling, but he lingered. He had the freedom to move his hands, and that was all he needed, letting one sweep a bit of her long brown hair back from her cheek.

"Agreed," she allowed, eyeing his lopsided smile. She sipped her nog, finding her cup nearly empty, and turned to leave him be.

"Until next time," she added. Deliberate in her ambiguity.

“Well now I’m going to be thinking about next time,” he said mostly to himself before wandering off on his own to find another drink.

No lie, Kitty had been wondering about this since the first night she crashed in his bed. So when he bent to kiss her, she immediately curled her hand around the back of his neck and drew him closer. Her other hand caught in his shirt, fingers slipping between the buttons to rub the backs of her fingers against his chest.

Tony didn't hold on but he did kiss back, and the soft sweep of his clever, inventor's fingers against her cheek made clear he had at least some interest. She instinctively tilted her face into his hand.

Although he was ostensibly free, she made no move to step away, but neither did she press for a deeper kiss; her soft sigh did offer an invitation if he was inclined to take it.

The warm weight of Kitty's cheek against his palm and the little murmurs that mingled with his breath were encouraging. Unable to resist the call, he deepened the contact for a few moments. Tony drew back an inch, regarding his R&D partner with a muted surprise--the pleasant kind.

"...I'll take it the coffee wasn't too much of a turn-off." He chuckled, mouth hovering just above hers.

He had probably wondered about it as well, but he had few enough friends that he'd ruthlessly squelched any such thoughts. Still, since the opportunity had presented itself he decided to enjoy it and fumbling slightly set down his glass so both arms went around her.

"I remember making paper snowflakes out of newspaper." Steve couldn't help but grin at that memory. "They looked so dirty hanging around the place. At least it was festive?"

Then he blushed just slightly, stepping in closer to his friend. "It's hard to ignore."

"Isn't it?" Bucky moved in closer to Steve, bringing them mere inches apart if that. He glanced up at Steve, reaching up to cup his cheek with his human hand. "You could just look somewhere else. Anywhere else."

And yet, Bucky knew just where Steve would look. Leaning in close, his lips met Steve's and he didn't care who saw them.

Bucky frowned. "Well, then they don't see what is right in front of them. So what that you're pale? That shouldn't matter." He gave her a soft smile. "I don't think you're strange. And I have a metal arm, so who am I to judge?" He hated that she might feel insecure about herself. She shouldn't, not here. This place seemed to be safer than most.

"Who can tell, honestly? I think it's just all over the Inn. I haven't entered a room yet without some." Emma gave his elbow a gentle squeeze. "Something to do with the holiday? And being festive." . She shrugged her shoulders gently.

"Are you complaining?"

"Of course I'm not complaining." It's an excuse to kiss her. He'll take them whenever he can get them. "I think I may like this holiday."

"Oh?" Steve brought his eyes over to look into Bucky's. They were warm and soft, his gaze gentle and affectionate.

"Where do you suggest I look?" He was leaning in more, growing closer. The warmth coming from his friend filled him with a comfortable feeling.

"Here."

Bucky reached up, both of his hands cupping Steve's cheeks. He pulled the man forward, gently, not strong enough to hurt but with enough determination that there would be no mistake. With a grin, Bucky kissed Steve hard, claiming the man as his own. A strong kiss, passionate and full of emotion, Bucky didn't care who might walk in on them. He wanted this.

"You and me both." Emma slipped her hand into his and laced their fingers together.

And they were kissing. This was one of those things that felt so strange, and yet so normal at the same time. Comfortable. Peaceful and passionate and wonderful all wrapped up into the meeting of lips and tongue and bodies pressed against one another.

Steve felt he could spend the rest of his life kissing Bucky. It wasn't until he remembered where they were that he reluctantly pulled back.

Bucky pulled back, raising an eyebrow at Steve. He really wasn't big on public displays of affection. That had always been true and always would be true. Still, it was cute to see Steve blush like that.

"Not a bad way to start the holidays."

"Probably the best way to start the holidays," Steve said. Now they were talking about it, he felt shy. His cheeks were hot. "But that's what the mistletoe is for, isn't it?"

Bucky smiled, taking one of Steve's hands in his, threading their fingers together. "Maybe I should steal some and we take it back to our room, hmm?" He was kidding, mostly, but there was a hint of mischief in his eyes.

It's so easy when they agree on something. "It makes me wonder about the people who started that tradition. They must have liked the holiday too."

They often do.

"You think? Maybe they just liked kissing and made up any excuse to do as much of it as they could." Emma grinned softly. She felt like a schoolgirl, her cheeks going pink.
