This plot has been revised. The current sign-up and planning post is here

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

We're calling a halt to all planning on the powers plot while we work out some bugs that you all have pointed out. We should have details for you in plenty of time to plan for the plot, but for the moment, please suspend any planning you might be doing, as all power assignments will be redone under new guidelines.

On top of that, the mods (me, Sil, and Umi) want to apologize to all of the players for not considering the plot mechanics carefully enough to avoid some of these issues we should have foreseen. We'd also like to apologize to Mere, because many of the problems that have arisen were our doing and not hers.

That said, we're still really looking forward to this plot and there will be a new post about it soon. To alleviate any concerns, everything will be based around opting-in. The specifics are forthcoming.

Allie for Allie, Umi, Sil - and Mere

The inn isn't just going to let April Fools' Day pass by unobserved when it could throw some crack at us.

And here's your chance to sign up for the fun and find out what power(s) your character ends up with.

What: Powers Swap!
When: April 1-3
Who: This plot is opt-in. Everyone at the inn should quickly figure out there are shenanigans afoot, but you're only as involved as you want to be.
How: Participating powered and/or non-human characters "lose" their abilities/differences for the duration of the plot. Non-powered humans (or those who have lost abilities) gain a power set, from a pool of all powers at the inn, assigned by random number generator.

FAQ

* Can I lose my powers without gaining others? Yes!

* Do androids/Asgardians/half-elves/frost giants/vampires/etc. count? Yes. They're all non-humans, so they could wake up human or something other than their usual species/type.

* What counts as a power? If it's an inherent part of them, it counts. If it comes from an item, it doesn't. (Coby's wings are a part of him - they're part of his power set. Vax's wings that look almost identical, come from his armor - Vax keeps his wings, no one else can wake up with them. Peter's spidey sense, reflexes, agility, strength, etc. are in Spider-Man's power set. His web shooters are an item, so they aren't.)

* Can I lose/gain part of the power set, but not another? Nope. It's a package deal. (If Vex loses her powers, she can't combat the lack of darkvision by casting Light when she has to get up in the middle of the night to change a diaper. If you gain Coby's wings, you get his passive empathy too. Wake up a half-elf? You're going to have paladin/druid or ranger/cleric powers too.)

* Is it only if you give up a power that someone else gets it? Nope. If anyone at the inn has it, the random number generator might give it to you. (Even if Mia didn't lose her androidness, someone else could become an android during the plot.)

* I have a question you haven't thought about. Add it to the handy dandy Questions comment below.

This sounds cool, how do I join?
* Comment below with your participating character(s).
* If your powered/non-human character is ONLY losing their powers, include that in the comment.
* Within a day or two, you'll get a reply with your surprise gained power.
* Plan, plot, play.

It's probably obvious we aren't all going to be super familiar with everyone's canon and power sets, just as our characters are going to have a period of adjustment to unexpected differences. This is a great time to reach out to the players who are used to RPing those powers, talk about what a beginner might experience, that sort of thing.

Also remember the inn is a very small community. Unless a character has been making a concerted effort to hide their differences (Caroline, for example), your character probably has some idea who to go to for advice or lessons to help with the learning curve. (Snow may usually avoid Coby, but if she wakes up one morning with large, black wings out of her back, it might be time to rethink that avoidance or to double down on it, also, because she's comfortable with Jag and knows he's friends with Coby... etc. There are lots of ways planning and playing could go.)

I'm hoping this will be something fun for all the players, if not necessarily the characters involved, that the period of adjustment will give the characters something that isn't the interminable SSDD of life at the inn, and that maybe it will give all of us opportunities to reach out from our usual circle of RP partners, both IC and OOC.
